Melee Splash is a support gem that can be linked with a single-target melee skill gem to add an area of effect to the attack.

Skill functions and interactions

Melee Splash does not work with melee skills that already have an area of effect, such as Ground Slam skill iconGround Slam and Cleave skill iconCleave. Infernal Blow skill iconInfernal Blow has the "AoE" gem tag for its explosion effect, but the primary hit is still single-target and will benefit from Melee Splash. Whirling Blades skill iconWhirling Blades, although being a melee skill and not having an AoE, is not compatible with Melee Splash.

Skills supported by Melee Splash do not receive the AoE gem tag.[1]

Modifiers to AoE (e.g. Area of Effect radius and Area Damage) will apply to the AoE component of Melee Splash. However, damage on target initially struck does not count as an AoE and will not be affected by relevant bonuses, using splash effectively grants a normal hit on the primary target plus a donut-shaped AoE around it.

The area of effect created by Melee Splash has a base radius of 14 units. [2]

Melee Splash will also "spread" effects, for example, if your initial hit is a knock back to the target you hit with a single-target skill, nearby enemies within the radius of Melee Splash will also get knocked back. Same works with stuns as well. This is very effective with Heavy Strike as it is a guaranteed knockback per hit.
