The new masters

The masters Zana, Alva, Niko, Jun and Einhar.

Masters are five special NPCs that randomly spawn in Wraeclast and offer the player missions. Each master offers unique mechanics and rewards to reap. In exchange for completing these missions, players can unlock crafting recipes on the Crafting Bench and gain Favour for buying decorations for your hideout.

Overview

Masters must be encountered in the wild before they start appearing in various towns in Wraeclast.

Missions

Masters can be encountered in most zones, where they will offer a mission. Zana can only be encountered in Maps.

Atlas Objectives

After you complete a map, a maps in the Atlas of Worlds will be marked to show a master is located in that map. Opening an instance to that map will guarantee the master to appear there. If the objective of the same master is already on the Atlas when it spawns, it will move to a new place. Objectives can appear on any non-unique map, but will favour completed maps or maps adjacent to completed maps.

Atlas Objectives refresh every day at midnight UTC.

Favour

Successfully completing missions for Masters grants you Favour. Favour is used to purchase hideout decorations.

Each master has a Favour level, which goes up to 7. Each Favour level unlocks new decorations to purchase.

Crafting

Main page: Crafting Bench
For a more in-depth look at master crafting techniques, see Crafting#Master crafting.
Mastercrafted item

A rare item with a master crafted mod.

Using the crafting bench in your hideout, you can add a master crafted mod into an item. Crafting recipes are unlocked as you play the game and complete missions for masters. Unlocked recipes are retained account-wide.

Adding crafted mods

The crafting bench offers a list of mods that can be crafted onto items of certain types for a cost. Usually, only one crafted mod may be added to an item; the crafted mod is shown in a brighter color than normal mods. Crafting a mod follows the normal affix rules. Specifically:

  • The item cannot already have a mod of that type.
  • The item must have a prefix or suffix slot open as appropriate. This means that a second prefix or suffix cannot be crafted onto a magic item, nor a fourth prefix or suffix onto a rare item.

Likewise, the existence of a crafted mod on an item prevents a mod of the same type from being added via an Exalted Orb inventory iconExalted OrbExalted OrbStack Size: 10Augments a rare item with a new random modifierRight click this item then left click a rare item to apply it. Rare items can have up to six random modifiers.Exalted Orb inventory icon.

Meta-crafting mods

Players can unlock crafting recipes to a special mod which doesn't grant stats or bonuses, but affects other mods and may override regular crafting rules.[1] These meta-crafting mods are treated as regular master crafted mods; they take up either a prefix or suffix spot but, like any other crafting mod, only one can be added at a time. This can be bypassed with the Can have multiple Crafted Mods mod.

Removing crafted mods

Crafted mods may not be directly exchanged. They are removed if the item is randomly rerolled using an Orb of Alteration inventory iconOrb of AlterationOrb of AlterationStack Size: 20Reforges a magic item with new random modifiersRight click this item then left click a magic item to apply it.

This does not apply to mods protected by the "Prefixes/Suffixes Cannot be Changed" meta-crafting mods.

Version history

Version Changes
3.5.0
  • Haku, Elreon, Tora, Catarina, Vagan, Leo and Vorici are no longer Forsaken Masters. In fact, they've disappeared entirely, and we're worried about them.
  • There's a new roster of Masters! Alva, Niko and Einhar have returned and have brought their respective League features with them. They, along with Zana and the Betrayal League's Jun Ortoi, make up the new roster of Masters.
  • Overhauled Mastercrafting: You now have a single Crafting Bench in your Hideout that covers all item types and crafting mods. You now gain new crafting mods from a variety of different sources, including through exploration and helping the new Masters. You can also overwrite previously crafted mods at the cost of an Orb of Scouring.
  • Masters, including Zana, no longer have Reputation levels. Features such as crafting bench options are, as a result, no longer unlocked by grinding master missions, and are instead unlocked by encountering specific locations, situations or completing specific objectives.
  • Hideouts are also no longer unlocked or improved through master grinding. Instead, Helena will help you unlock new hideouts found throughout the campaign and (very rarely) within the Atlas. Newly obtained hideouts are automatically at their maximum size and hold all masters without being upgraded.
  • Completing Master missions still earns you Favour, and Masters now have Favour levels that cap out at level 7. These levels only unlock Hideout decorations, and are account-wide (because favour, decorations and Hideouts are purely cosmetic).
  • Masters now have a different exclamation mark colour. It's orange!
2.6.3
  • The /claim_crafting_benches command has been removed. You can now place crafting benches from previous leagues in your challenge league hideout, but must level the masters up as usual to unlock various crafting functions.
2.4.0
  • Forsaken Masters that point to their objective now also have an arrow on the ground in that direction.
  • Medium-size hideouts can now hold four Forsaken Masters rather than three. Large-size hideouts can now hold seven Forsaken Masters rather than four. Navali and Leo both bypass these limits.
2.2.2
  • Daily master missions will now always generate at a difficulty which will allow the player entry. The level will not change, however. If the player is at too low a level to enter, the difficulty of the daily mission will be lowered.
