The Occultist is an Ascendancy class for Witches.

Overview

Occultists are suited for Witches with a focus on chaos damage or curses. Malediction greatly enhances curse specialists, while Profane Bloom and Void Beacon amplify the output of chaos damage. Occultists are well-served by builds that rely on & maximize energy shield. Occultists also may serve as a generic way to generate Power Charges in builds which lack other means of doing so.

Malediction is an Ascendancy passive skill for the Occultist. It raises the additional curse limit by one, increases the effect of your curses, and causes enemies you curse to have Malediction, decreasing their damage and increasing their damage taken.

Mechanics

The Malediction debuff on cursed enemies applies the following:

  • 10% reduced Damage Dealt
  • 10% increased Damage Taken

Malediction can only be applyed to monsters with triggered or selfe casted Hexes/Marks. It is not applyed by curse auras (curses who are supported by Blasphemy or items witch grand a curse aura like the Witchfire Brew)

Wicked Ward is a keystone passive skill that prevents energy shield recharge from being interrupted by damage if energy shield recharge began recently, but halves your energy shield regeneration and leech.

Vile Bastion is a notable Ascendancy passive skill for the Occultist. It grants flat energy shield regeneration and percentage energy shield regeneration for each enemy killed by you or your minions recently. It also grants immunity to stun while you have any amount of energy shield.

Since this passive grants energy shield regeneration, it is not removed by Vaal Pact, unlike life regeneration that is converted with Zealot's Oath.
