Interlanguage Links[]

Usually, on the left you have a section called "Languages", and then a list of links of different languages that the current page is in (as opposed to a separate section for each language, each with a link to just the Main Page, as you have now). Also, something like Main Page/de is a "subpage" of Main Page: the MediaWiki software doesn't, I think, recognize it as Main Page in another language, but rather thinks it something (presumably still in English, as far as the software is concerned) related to Main Page.

Subpages are usually used for archives of discussions (e.g. Talk:Main Page/Archive 1 might be where you put old discussions after Talk:Main Page becomes too full), or for sections of pages that are literally "subpages" of the main article (e.g. you might create a Armour Shard/technical page for some technical details you don't want to bore most of the audience with in the main page, for example). I'm not sure of the "general form" for various language URLs; Wikipedia, Wiktionary, and Wikibooks all use the "lang.domain.tld/Page_title" format (e.g. [en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_page] vs. [de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_page], not [wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_page/de]); this seems like a good format to me, but that involves some server configuration I'm not familiar with.

To be honest, I have not actually used interlanguage links before; the Wikis I have worked on have all been English-only. I've also never had administrator or server access, so I don't know the full details on setting things like this up on the back-end. I only know from experience that large-scale conversion from one scheme to another is a huge pain in the ass, so we should sort this out now, while there's only a few articles.
DragoonWraithTalk • 14:02, 16 October 2011 (UTC)

Got it. I started looking into your suggestion and have created a new wiki as a test, which you can find at French PoE Wiki. User accounts from this wiki should be getting carried over on to that one. I've also created a German one, but I'm waiting for Virtual Hosts to update before I can test to see if it's all working properly.
I've not yet enabled the actual interwiki links, but that'll be the next thing to test, alongside making sure all files are shared properly so I don't have to update a bunch of pages for something to take effect sitewide (like extensions).
The only thing that seems quite complicated about the process seems to be the URL structure, I don't think I'll have a main entry portal page like [1], instead it should go directly into the English language version of the site.
I definitely agree that getting everything set up now rather than later is the way to go, data migration is a huge pain in the arse, so I'd like to keep it all to a minimum and do everything the right way from the start. Iamacyborg 14:23, 16 October 2011 (UTC)
I can confirm that the French site is working, and my account (and even my logged-in status!) carries over to that site. Nice!

Also, by the way: most Wikis have a kind of weird back-and-forth style for user discussions (where I post on your talk and you on mine). It makes it harder to follow the conversation since it's not all in one place, but it does have the advantage of notifying the other when an update is posted. I'm not really convinced that it's the best way to handle things, but I thought I should toss it out there and let you know that the convention exists.
DragoonWraithTalk • 17:02, 16 October 2011 (UTC)
Looks great! Only comment at this point is that it's a little odd that it's not in alphabetical order.
DragoonWraithTalk • 21:52, 16 October 2011 (UTC)

Wiki Bot[]

By the way, I have some software for automating certain tasks on Wikis; I mostly use it for RegEx Search&Replace across a large number of pages (e.g. change "Armor" to "Armour" or vice versa on every page in the (Main) namespace, perhaps), though I've used it a few times also for the batch creation of pages (it has a function to create pages from a single document, which can be a fast way to produce numerous similar pages). Typically, I request permission to use this bot, and if granted, create an account for it and request that the "Bot flag" be set on that account. The Bot flag is useful because it allows you to hide automated bot activity on Recent Changes.

If you're interested, the bot is a Pywikipediabot.
DragoonWraithTalk • 14:02, 16 October 2011 (UTC)

I've never actually run a bot on a wiki site before, but I'll take a look at it. Being able to batch create stuff like item and skill pages will be a huge boon, particularly if Chris is able to provide item data at a latter date. Iamacyborg 14:23, 16 October 2011 (UTC)
Ooh, yeah, that would be good.
DragoonWraithTalk • 17:02, 16 October 2011 (UTC)

Shared Pool[]

Ouch; sorry to hear the docs are lacking. Glad you got it sorted.
DragoonWraithTalk • 23:33, 17 October 2011 (UTC)

Permissions[]

Something mentioned on the forums, that I'd completely forgotten about: we need permissions to put anything up here that isn't publicly announced, right? I heard you'd gotten permission for some things, but I wanted to make sure that my additions (mostly the Quality section) don't reveal anything they shouldn't. Do you know, by any chance, if anything in there isn't OK?
DragoonWraithTalk • 23:33, 17 October 2011 (UTC)

Fan Portal[]

Hello there! I find Path of Exile fan sides could you add this to Sidebar? First is polish side http://path-of-exile.pl/ Second is english side with statistics from ladder and events http://poestatistics.com/ --Gromerr (talk) 08:42, 21 August 2012 (UTC)

Its not that easy to adapt the sidebar within a wiki construct. I'd prefer and suggest to make a different page to link interesting external sites. And I would stay on the language range for such sites (your examples are mainly the same, the english one is just a translated shape for the same database as the polish) I also use the sites, but I suspect it might be confusing lots of other peoples that have no experience with polish or at least russian (like me) --Mr.Cee (talk) 10:35, 21 August 2012 (UTC)
It's actually super easy to edit the Sidebar, just need to edit this page Mediawiki:Sidebar. I think eventually the best thing to do will be to adapt the community portal to be a page which mentions all the fan sites, etc and keep the sidebar dedicated to this site with interlanguage links. Gromerr I'll get those on there. Iamacyborg (talk) 07:14, 22 August 2012 (UTC)
Ah ok, didnt know where its configured; just learned one thing more! ;) Adapted the german sidebar, and noticed a little thingy: the preview didnt handle the links right (parting between link and showtext). --Mr.Cee (talk) 08:30, 22 August 2012 (UTC)
Yep I know how edit sidebar but I don't have permission, and asking you Iamacyborg for help.--Gromerr (talk) 09:38, 22 August 2012 (UTC)
Gromerr, I'll put the links up later today. Iamacyborg (talk) 10:03, 22 August 2012 (UTC)

Hello, why link to http://poestatistics.com has been replaced by exilestats.com ? --Gromerr (talk) 14:47, 1 August 2013 (UTC)

Hosting[]

Hello. It seems that wiki lags a lot now. If you wish, I can host it on my dedicated server (this one) for free. Just contact me via e-mail if you like this offer ;) --Xyz (talk) 14:33, 21 August 2012 (UTC)

I've already got a VPS, just learning how to set it up and the site will be migrated there as soon as I can get it all working properly. Thanks for the offer though, hopefully traffic picks up even more and I need to take you up on your offer! Iamacyborg (talk) 07:15, 22 August 2012 (UTC)

Greetings[]

I'm interested in the Path of Exile Wiki. Please contact me at your earliest convenience. wynthyst'at'gmail.com --Wynthyst (talk) 14:28, 20 January 2013 (UTC)

Spammers[]

There have been some spammers trolling the wiki lately. I'm willing to do what I can to patrol this. It would also help if I had permission to ban them. —Vinifera7 (talk) 02:29, 30 January 2013 (UTC)

Polish Translation[]

I read the guidelines outlined here and I start working on translation, but I'm new for wiki and maybe I'm doing something wrong then if you can look on main page Path_of_Exile_Wiki/pl and say what I'm doing wrong.

...is it a good place for such questions?

Duplicate uploads[]

Hi Iamacyborg, today I started uploading a bunch of skill icon images, but halfway through the process I realized someone else had done the same thing earlier in the day. I can't see a way to delete them, that must be reserved for administrators. See this link for a list of the files I uploaded. All the ones ending with _skill_icon.png should be deleted, they are identical to the ones User:Mayjay uploaded earlier. What's more, I accidentally edited your talk page on pool.pathofexilewiki.com instead of en. so this note is duplicate there :P --Malice (talk) 03:15, 5 February 2013 (UTC)

I've begun categorizing all the images. There are many duplicate and unused images there that need deletion. If you give me the rights, I'll delete them myself, but in the meantime I'm putting them in a category to make them easy to locate. — Malice (talk) 14:51, 6 February 2013 (UTC)

Support Gem IDs[]

I went ahead and whipped-up a template for support gem IDs and put it to use: Support. The Template may need some minor adjustments, and CSS support, but I think it looks good for a quick hack! -- Nightblade (talk) 09:08, 5 February 2013 (UTC).

CSS[]

Any chance I could get admin rights? I'm working on some templates that need background images, and inline style with background images returns

style="/* Insecure input */"

in the code of the rendered page. So I'm guessing it has to go in the CSS files, which would also be much easier. Also, is there any way to upload a font to the wiki? The normal upload method only accepts images, it would be nice to be able to use the fontinsmallcaps font that PoE uses. If it's not possible to upload font files to the wiki, and if the wiki won't complain about an external link in the css, I can probably host the font. — Malice (talk) 12:47, 10 February 2013 (UTC)

Thanks, for that. Just a further note about fonts - I am not suggesting using the font for the whole site, that would be a terrible idea. But if used sparingly for specific things (such as replicating UI elements) it could be a nice touch. — Malice (talk) 14:07, 10 February 2013 (UTC)

External links[]

Re: Changing the external link colour back to blue.

Just in case it escaped your notice, the :visited & :active pseudo-classes and image for the external links are still in the brown colour. — Malice (talk) 19:28, 11 February 2013 (UTC)

No idea about the image, looking at the history, it looks like that stuff was simply added in, so it might be fine to just remove it. Or just ask User:Vinifera7 to undo the change. — Malice (talk) 19:50, 11 February 2013 (UTC)

GlobalUsage extension[]

Check it out http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:GlobalUsage

This is exactly what we need on the pool domain (and the others too). Take a look here at the bottom of the page, it shows all pages prom all wikis using the file. — Malice (talk) 18:33, 25 February 2013 (UTC)

Great find, I've asked people at Curse to see if it's something they could add. Iamacyborg (talk) 20:14, 25 February 2013 (UTC)

Exile Builds[]

Sorry about that, I didn't realize the links are considered advertising, since I'm not gaining anything from the website other than helping people find builds (no ads, no sponsors, nothing). In any case, if you consider that adding links to the builds is an issue, when I thought they would actually help the community, then keep them removed.

I see that there's a "Fan Portal" in the right sidebar. Is it a posibility to list exilebuilds.com in there, or is that advertising too? Thanks.

Bot users[]

Hi, can you please put User:Nightbladebot in the "Bot" user group? Thanks. -- Nightblade (talk) 23:04, 1 April 2013 (UTC)

Done! Iamacyborg (talk) 06:40, 2 April 2013 (UTC)

Also add User:Vinibot, s'il vous plaît. If I need to make mass category changes, I can do so under the bot account. That way people can hide bot edits from appearing in recent changes. —Vinifera7 (talk) 19:45, 2 April 2013 (UTC)

C'est fait! Iamacyborg (talk) 20:54, 2 April 2013 (UTC)
Thanks, but I discovered a problem: If you look on Special:ListGroupRights you will see that the Bot group doesn't implicitly have the ability to edit pages like normal users. I can't actually edit anything with my bot account at the moment. I think the problem will be fixed if you place User:Nightbladebot and User:Vinibot in both the User and Bot groups. —Vinifera7 (talk) 22:26, 2 April 2013 (UTC)
That's odd -- I could edit things with my bot just fine the other day using AWB. Bots and normal users should be in separate areas on the checkpage afaik: CheckPage_format so I think the problem lies elsewhere. -- Nightblade (talk) 01:57, 3 April 2013 (UTC)
Any chance you could check if it's still working? Iamacyborg (talk) 07:47, 3 April 2013 (UTC)
There isn't actually a separate user group, can you try get any more info you can and I'll chase Curse guys to try get it dealt with. In the meantime feel free to make edits with your regular account while it's sorted. Iamacyborg (talk) 07:47, 3 April 2013 (UTC)
Still working fine for me. I assume you (Vini) have checked that preferences->site is set to "custom" + en.pathofexilewiki.com/w/ ? -- Nightblade (talk) 08:04, 3 April 2013 (UTC)
It works just fine on my normal account. It doesn't let me save edits on my Vinibot account. The only difference is which user group the accounts are placed in and which section the user names are under on the CheckPage, so deductively the problem must lie in one of those two things. —Vinifera7 (talk) 14:40, 3 April 2013 (UTC)
The only difference I can think of between our two bot users is that I did some edits with mine before it was moved into the bot group. --Nightblade (talk) 02:46, 4 April 2013 (UTC)
Exactly my point. Have you even tried making edits on your bot account after? —Vinifera7 (talk) 02:54, 4 April 2013 (UTC)
I sure have, I did a test edit with it just yesterday. -- Nightblade (talk) 03:08, 4 April 2013 (UTC)
And you're saying it works? —Vinifera7 (talk) 03:17, 4 April 2013 (UTC)
Yeppers. -- Nightblade (talk) 03:47, 4 April 2013 (UTC)

Same request here. Could you please add my account to the Bot group? I set it up successfully here and would like to use it to:

  • generate microtransaction pages, as suggested by FaceLicker here
  • update the "Quest reward" section of all gem pages with accurate information

Later, I might try to:

  • generate missing monster pages and update existing ones based on this template
  • generate missing area pages, especially for Descent: Champions areas
  • update skill progression tables on gem pages
  • generate or update passive skill pages

As for the technical, I tried AWB and found it far too complicated for my little brain, so I'll just stay with my good old DotNetWikiBot. Chriskang (talk) 20:30, 27 January 2014 (UTC)

Usergroup added. Let me know if there are any problems with it! Iamacyborg (talk) 21:10, 27 January 2014 (UTC)
Pas de probleme. As Vini mentions below, it'd be best if you create a new account for all bot edits, and keep your main for everything else. Is that all right? Iamacyborg (talk) 21:50, 27 January 2014 (UTC)
Normal user accounts should really not be placed in the bot category since bot edits are hidden by default on the recent changes list. Please change him back to a normal user. He should create a separate account specifically for bot edits. Thanks. —Vini (t|c) 21:39, 27 January 2014 (UTC)
Good point. Let's remove User:Chriskang from the group and add User:ChriskangBot instead. Is it fine like this, Vini ?
That's fine. As soon as you create that new account I'll add the bot privileges to it, changing your main to a normal user right now. Iamacyborg (talk) 21:51, 27 January 2014 (UTC)

Every time I try to create a new page with my bot, I get a "failure" response from the wiki followed by a CAPTCHA question. There are several issues here:

  1. The ConfirmEdit extension wrongly detects an external link in my edit and triggers the CAPTCHA hook when there is no reason to do so. This is a recurring issue that I also encounter with my main account (I'm prompted to recognize cats every now and then). This issue only affects normal users that don't have the skipcaptcha right. Bureaucrats and Admins (like you and Vini) should never see the cats because of their group but I can assure you that it's a real pain for us mere mortals.
  2. I cannot send a CAPTCHA answer because the extension seems to be incorrectly installed. To pass an answer to the mediawiki API, you're supposed to use the captchaid and captchaword parameters but those parameters are not recognized on poe wiki. If I set them, I get the following response from the server: Unrecognized parameters: 'captchaid', 'captchaword'. Unless you changed the keywords during the installation of the extension, I think it's impossible to give an answer through the API as of now.
  3. By default, when you install the ConfirmEdit extension, bots do have the skipcatcha right as described in the manual. But it's not the case on poe wiki as seen here so I guess it's intentional to remove the right? Could you please reconsider this decision? I doubt we have untrustworthy bots on the wiki, unless maybe I'm one of them?
  4. If you don't want to change the mediawiki settings, can you please consider adding my ChriskangBot to a group that has the skipcaptcha right? Maybe a new one, if you don't want to add me to a high-privilege group (which I can certainly understand).

Chriskang (talk) 23:48, 18 February 2014 (UTC)

Instead of creating a new group, perhaps we can simply add the skipcaptcha privilege to the bot group. —Vini (t|c) 04:11, 19 February 2014 (UTC)
This is precisely my suggestion #3. It should be like this by default but was changed by Iamacyborg or maybe the Curse guys. Reverting the change would probably be the best option but it requires an access to the installation folder and I'm not sure Iamacyborg still has it. Chriskang (talk) 08:44, 19 February 2014 (UTC)
The only reason I can see not to make this change is if Curse won't allow it for some reason. —Vini (t|c) 09:05, 19 February 2014 (UTC)

Admin rights[]

Hey there, I sent you an e-mail regarding admin rights. In case you missed it.. Would you mind allowing them to me? I'd like to go through the images and finsish the categorization and name standardization that User:Malice started. I'll be uploading a lot images of monsters/bosses/other things and would like to have everything organized. Thanks --FaceLicker (talk) 21:21, 2 April 2013 (UTC)

I didn't get an email which is a bit weird, what email address did you use? I've given you the admin rights on the pool wiki though as requested. Iamacyborg (talk) 07:48, 3 April 2013 (UTC)

Japanese translation[]

hi.I'm translating to japanese now.

Path_of_Exile_Wiki/ja Passive Skills/ja

Imomusi (talk) 02:16, 18 April 2013 (UTC)

Awesome! Let me know if you need me to do or help with anything. Iamacyborg (talk) 07:40, 18 April 2013 (UTC)

Greetings! I've just been exiled from HC league AGAIN so that I'm gonna start translating... --Chino (talk) 22:26, 22 April 2013 (UTC)

Excellent. Imomusi is the one spearheading this, so you'll be best off talking to him about what to work on. Iamacyborg (talk) 08:46, 23 April 2013 (UTC)

Pool Permissions[]

Would you be so kind as to give me permissions to delete images in the pool, so that I have the ability to clean up as needed? —Vinifera7 (talk) 21:11, 25 April 2013 (UTC)

Done! Iamacyborg (talk) 07:42, 26 April 2013 (UTC)

LaTeX formula display[]

Any chance we could get LaTeX formula display enabled on this wiki? It would help with e.g. Armour. --Evil4Zerggin (talk) 00:53, 29 April 2013 (UTC)

CSS/JS Permissions[]

Hi, could I get permissions to edit the CSS/javascript files? -AnnanFay (talk) 17:08, 23 May 2013 (UTC)

Should be done now, give it a go and let me know if you're still having difficulties. Iamacyborg (talk) 18:10, 23 May 2013 (UTC)
Cool, thanks. It works :) -AnnanFay (talk) 19:26, 23 May 2013 (UTC)
Excellent! Iamacyborg (talk) 19:37, 23 May 2013 (UTC)

Non-wiki links open in new window[]

I noticed that non-wiki links (such as this) open in a new browser tab/window. It's normally considered bad practice to force this on users. Also of note is the fact that Wikipedia does not have this behavior on their non-wiki links; they open in the same tab/window by default. Is there a setting somewhere in the wiki software that would allow you to change this? —Vinifera7 (talk) 15:59, 24 June 2013 (UTC)

It seems LocalSettings.php, $wgExternalLinkTarget needs to be edited. -AnnanFay (talk) 17:03, 24 June 2013 (UTC)
That behaviour is working as intended as far as I'm concerned. Is it something you guys find very annoying? I can ask Curse to change it, but I'd like to get a wider opinion on it. Iamacyborg (talk) 09:08, 25 June 2013 (UTC)
As I was saying, among web designers it's considered bad practice from a usability and accessibility standpoint to force users to open links in a new window. As far as a wider opinion goes, why not just look up any of the many articles that have been written about it? Here is a small selection:
Vinifera7 (talk) 12:33, 25 June 2013 (UTC)
It looks like the migration fixed this. So yay! —Vinifera7 (talk) 00:16, 27 June 2013 (UTC)

Categories link[]

You know the Category/Categories link to the left of a page's categories listed at the bottom? Currently it links to Special:Categories, which is not very useful. Can we instead link it to the root category (Category:Contents)? Is there some way to do this? —Vini (t|c) 00:26, 22 October 2013 (UTC)

Yeah, it'd make sense to change that. Will have a look around to see if it's possible and what needs to be done if it is. Iamacyborg (talk) 11:37, 22 October 2013 (UTC)

This should be modified here by someone with sysop rights. Chriskang (talk) 18:49, 13 January 2014 (UTC)
Done! Thanks for finding that. Iamacyborg (talk) 19:03, 13 January 2014 (UTC)
Kudos Chriskang! —Vini (t|c) 19:15, 13 January 2014 (UTC)

new patch[]

Could you edit the frontpage so it shows the new version 1.0.0 ? :) SirProblematique 17:24, 23 October 2013 (UTC)

It's actually pulled in from the Update History page, which anyone can edit. I'll update in a few. Iamacyborg (talk) 17:33, 23 October 2013 (UTC)

Bot rights[]

Hi. I added 4 remarks in this section 3 weeks ago. Did you see them? Could you please consider adding the "skipcaptcha" right to the bot group? I'm still grounded by the cats at the moment. Chriskang (talk) 13:54, 11 March 2014 (UTC)

really sorry about that! Things have been fairly hectic, I've just requested the change with people at Curse, will let you know what the outcome is asap. Iamacyborg (talk) 18:03, 11 March 2014 (UTC)
Not forgotten this, still trying to get it sorted out. Iamacyborg (talk) 19:40, 13 March 2014 (UTC)

German Translation[]

Hallo. I would like to start the german Translation if nobody is already translating. Snaratsch (talk) 10:27, 11 April 2014 (UTC)

This must be the wiki you're looking for: http://pathofexile-de.gamepedia.com/Hauptseite . Seems to be abandoned though. Good luck. Chriskang (talk) 11:39, 11 April 2014 (UTC)
The link Chriskang posted is the correct one, though the wiki is very much out of date at this point, let me know if you need any help with getting stuff on there but as I don't speak German there isn't a great deal I can do content wise. Iamacyborg (talk) 11:22, 12 April 2014 (UTC)
I´m not able to edit the Mainpage. It would be great if i could get the necessary Permissions. Snaratsch (talk) 14:25, 13 April 2014 (UTC)
I've changed the protection level so that any confirmed user should be able to edit it. Let me know if you need anything else. Iamacyborg (talk) 18:17, 13 April 2014 (UTC)
Thanks, it works great. But there are some missing Pictures at the german Wiki. Could you import them? Snaratsch (talk) 17:19, 15 April 2014 (UTC)
Which ones? You should have all the necessary rights to upload images yourself too. Iamacyborg (talk) 18:29, 15 April 2014 (UTC)
There's no bulk import for images as far as I'm aware. —Vini (t|c) 21:56, 15 April 2014 (UTC)
Correct, pages can be bulk exported and imported, but not files. Iamacyborg (talk) 17:18, 16 April 2014 (UTC)
I just thought that you could refresh the german Image pool at once or something like that. But I can upload the missing Pictures step by step. Snaratsch (talk) 11:40, 19 April 2014 (UTC)
I have a Problem with some missing Templates. Could you import all necessary Templates for the Itembox or all important Templates for including things. I tried, but I don`t have the permission. Snaratsch (talk) 13:00, 20 April 2014 (UTC)
Give me a list of templates you need or want and I'll run a batch import of them all. Iamacyborg (talk) 14:48, 20 April 2014 (UTC)
Ok, Perfect. I guess, that I need the Templates of the following Categories:
  • Wikipedia Templates
  • Data Templates
  • Item Templates
  • Template Documentation

Replacing skin images[]

Maybe you will know how to do this: I want to replace the arrow image shown on redirect pages with File:Redirectltr.png. —Vini (t|c) 20:16, 4 June 2014 (UTC)

Version history[]

Sorry about forgetting to add links back to version history for changes, I'll try to remember to do that in the future. I noticed several recent patches were missing from pages they affected; do you know if they are all linked to up to some point? Also, does every change get linked or only gameplay-changing ones (e.g. not the last one here)? Thanks, ~Bobogoobo (talk) 20:22, 22 January 2015 (UTC)

No worries mate! I usually go through stuff in batches but things were pretty hectic the last few weeks. I'll catch up on stuff I've missed but any help is always welcome. We essentially always add the version history to the relevant page if it's gameplay changing, but even interesting stuff like that one you linked is worth adding as well. I think there's value in seeing all the changes affecting one item/character/whatever in one place. Iamacyborg (talk) 22:38, 22 January 2015 (UTC)

Need an extra admin?[]

Hi. I was wondering of the wiki needs an extra admin, because I would be interested in helping out. I have been editing the wiki for quite a while now and I know my way around. There are some pages that need an overhaul (like the Community Portal) that can't be edited without admin rights. Also some smaller things, like adding new race/pvp seasons to the front page without having to report an issue on the Admin Noticeboard each time, would be a lot easier.

Let me know :) --Climmels aka SirProblematique (talk) 14:07, 22 February 2015 (UTC)

Hey, sorry this slipped through the net! I don't see any problems with making you an admin, what kind of overhauls would you like to make on the Community Portal page? Iamacyborg (talk) 19:30, 26 February 2015 (UTC)
I think we should expand the guidelines about skill gems pages, for example. It should be mentioned that when a new skill is added to the game, that skill needs to be featured in a number of pages. In addition to what the Community Portal says, the skill also needs to be added to the Skills list, the Template:Sl page, the Skills by Release Date page, the Template:Navbox_Skills page, if it is a quest reward it should be added to the relevant quest pages, but also the Quest Rewards and Quest Reward Gems pages... I think it's important to mention these things (and many others) in order to maintain some of the pages on the wiki and keeping them up to date. The same goes for unique items. The standards of the wiki have changed a lot since the community portal guidelines were written.
Another thing I'd like to add is a section about parts of the wiki that need work/updating or large-scale projects that can use community help (the unique item screenshots come to mind). We've seen in the past that when it's made clear that certain parts of the wiki are incomplete (like when a thread on reddit is made), the community's response can be suprisingly big. So listing those pages that need work can greatly help finding people who are willing, I think.
I'd post my proposed changes on the talk page first. I know the Community Portal is an important page :) --Climmels aka SirProblematique (talk) 22:37, 26 February 2015 (UTC)
That all sounds good! I've updated your user rights, let me know if there's anything I can help with! Iamacyborg (talk) 22:46, 26 February 2015 (UTC)
I will. Thanks! --Climmels aka SirProblematique (talk) 22:52, 26 February 2015 (UTC)

Admin rights request[]

I gather from the history here you're the guy to see about admin rights? I do a lot of organising and categorizing and often run into that barrier with things like inconsistent directory names, duplicate pages etc, which I either just move on from or bug an admin about (usually Vini :p). It'd save a lot of time trouble if I could fix them myself. Although I come and go from the wiki a bit as my free time and PoE activity oscillates, during the periods I'm here I'm usually very active and keep an eye on everything that happens.

Reason I'm asking now: currently I'm working on removed/renamed passive skills, of which some pages were deleted but others weren't, and I'd rather be able to look at deleted pages and undelete them if needed, or merge histories of renamed skills, then to keep bugging admins. --Qetuth-(talk) 02:52, 29 June 2015 (UTC)

That sounds fine to me! You've got a great edit history, so I'll bump your account up right away. Iamacyborg (talk) 14:24, 29 June 2015 (UTC)
Thanks :) --00:54, 30 June 2015 (UTC)

Admin/sysop rights[]

Hey, I've been reworking pages quite a bit now, and I've found myself wanting to edit MediaWiki:Common.css (i.e. for using css-classes instead of style in templates, including properly formatting elements that can't be formatted directly such as img-tags) as well as deleting now unused templates such as: Template:SkillRewardCleanup or even entire subpages of reworked pages: http://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/index.php?title=Special%3APrefixIndex&prefix=QuestReward&namespace=10

All of those actions require sysop rights. --OmegaK2 (talk) 15:38, 10 July 2015 (UTC)

Hey, I've just updated your user rights settings, you should be able to edit everything you need now. Iamacyborg (talk) 15:50, 10 July 2015 (UTC)
Thanks a lot. Btw do you know when the cache for Common.css clears? Manually clearning cache doesn't do much (or using other browers), so I guess it's cached server side for the time being. --OmegaK2 (talk) 16:57, 10 July 2015 (UTC)
Server-side cache should clear every couple hours IIRC. Iamacyborg (talk) 15:30, 21 July 2015 (UTC)

Embedding video's with ads[]

I've been told before to not embed video's that have ads in them, so I've always just linked my boss guides on the wiki page and not embbed them, I've been trying to update all my vids for the awakening ( and clearly include the patch number in the guides so people will know how old the video's are in the future ), but I've seen people are embedding video's with ads now? Is this now allowed?

Desert and Pit are an example of this.

--Magier556 (talk) 21 july 2015

Hey, I think that decision was an old one that I made, but I don't believe it's a problem anymore so feel free to embed videos where relevant. Please be careful of where you put them in the page though, and if a video is already embedded, please open up a discussion to replace it rather than potentially starting an edit war with someone. Semantic Mediawiki[]

Hey, a while ago you mentioned Semantic Mediawiki. It is possible to get it installed? It would really seem helpful, if we template all the item pages, quest pages so on, we could basically have a lot of those pages where it is referenced in multiple positions autogenerated. Since a lot of the info is already inside of templates, it would be a easy to task to add the properties. I've looked a bit over it now and it seems genuely helpful for highly data-driven wiki like ours. I didn't see anything that would help with importing data directly (there are some extensions for SMW, but it would seem they import the data externally from websites; seems less ideal then having it on the wiki itself.). One of the extensions that makes sense is probably Semantic Forms --OmegaK2 (talk) 12:18, 31 July 2015 (UTC)

Starting Portuguese translation[]

Hey, I'm a player from the Brazilian server, and have been playing PoE ever since the Beta ended. I want to start translating the Wiki to Portuguese, to help my fellow Brazilian players.

Kiloku (talk) 03:20, 21 December 2015 (UTC)

That's great! Do you know the process or do you want me to explain it to you? Are there any other editors working on this with you? Iamacyborg (talk) 11:59, 21 December 2015 (UTC)
I don't, actually. For now, I'm translating the gem related articles in a personal Google Drive file, so that I can add the translations here later when I have the details down. And there are no other editors, because I wanted to be sure the idea was greenlit first. I'll contact other Brazilian players in the forums to recruit them!
Kiloku (talk) 19:47, 23 December 2015 (UTC)
The process is mentioned in the Community Portal, let me know if that's not clear enough. If you need any help let me know :) Iamacyborg (talk) 08:32, 24 December 2015 (UTC)

Sorry to see you go[]

You certainly didn't have to remove your rights on my account. I'd happily have left them in place. If you decide you'd like them back, just let me know — Game widow (talk) 21:16, 15 June 2016 (UTC)
